Comparative Analysis of Unilateral Subarachnoid block with Ankle block for elective foot surgery

چکیده
Background: There are many accepted anesthesia techniques for elective foot surgery ranging from general anesthesia to regional anesthesia, regional anesthesia being the preferred method. Regional anesthesia techniques employed for foot surgery includes subarachnoid block, epidural anesthesia and ankle block. Objective: The present study is aimed at providing comparative analysis of ankle block with unilateral subarachnoid block for elective foot surgeries in terms of hemodynamic safety profile and post operative analgesia. Material and Methods: Study includes prospective analysis of 80 ASA II and III patients who underwent elective foot surgery. Patients were randomly divided into two groups of 40 each, Ankle block group (AB) and Unilateral subarachnoid group (US). The parameters recorded for study includes systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, visual analogue scale for pain severity, time of first analgesic need and the complications. Results: There were minimal blood pressure changes and heart rate variability in AB group as compared to US group when compared with basal values (p<0.05). The time for first analgesic requirement is prolonged in AB group as compared to US group. The visual analogue scale score was assessed at 2 ,4 and 6 hours for group AB were lowered as compared to group US (p <0.05). Conclusion: Ankle block is associated with lesser hemodynamic variations and better postoperative analgesia as compared to unilateral subarachnoid block.

Lateral trans-biceps popliteal block for elective foot and ankle surgery performed after induction of general anesthesia.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to determine safety and efficacy of lateral transtendinous popliteal blocks performed after induction of general anesthesia for intraoperative and postoperative pain control in elective foot and ankle surgery. METHODS The charts of 475 consecutive patients were retrospectively reviewed. The technique was a lateral transtendinous popliteal block under n...
متن کاملComparable Postoperative Pain Levels Using 2 Different Nerve Blocks in the Operative Treatment of Displaced Intra-articular Calcaneal Fractures
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to compare the postoperative pain levels in patients undergoing osteosynthesis of the calcaneus with either a popliteal nerve block or an ankle block. METHODS A retrospective analysis of all consecutive patients undergoing operative fixation of a calcaneal fracture via a sinus tarsi approach between August 2012 and April 2017 in a single foot/ankle special...
متن کاملLiposomal Bupivacaine Versus Continuous Popliteal Sciatic Nerve Block in Total Ankle Arthroplasty.
BACKGROUND Liposomal bupivacaine (LB) is widely used in joint arthroplasty, but there is little reported on the use of LB in foot and ankle surgery. Continuous popliteal sciatic nerve block (CPSNB) is more commonly used for major foot and ankle reconstructions. The purpose of this study was to compare use of intraoperative LB injection to CPSNB as a regional anesthetic for total ankle arthropla...
متن کاملThe Effect of Preemptive Ankle Block using Ropivacaine and Dexamethasone on Postoperative Analgesia in Foot Surgery
BACKGROUND Peripheral nerve blocks have become an increasingly popular form of anesthesia. Preemptive analgesia reduces central sensitization, postoperative pain, and analgesic consumption. Different additive has been used to prolong regional blockade and improve postoperative analgesia. AIM This study was conducted to evaluate whether preemptive ankle block using combination of ropivacaine a...
متن کاملBuprenorphine enhances and prolongs the postoperative analgesic effect of bupivacaine in patients receiving infragluteal sciatic nerve block.
BACKGROUND Results from previous studies have shown favorable effects from the addition of buprenorphine to local anesthetics used for interscalene or axillary perivascular brachial plexus blocks. The main objective of the current study was to determine whether addition of buprenorphine could enhance bupivacaine analgesia after infragluteal sciatic nerve block. METHODS One hundred and three c...
